This is a photo of my instructor Leonard H. Meldeau, me, my mother, and my father on the day I soloed a J-3 Piper Cub, N-87892, in the afternoon around 4:30 PM on 26 May, 1946 from the small grass field airport in Seneca S.C. I was 16 years old at the time and later that evening I was graduated from Seneca High School. On the May 26, 1996 I had the pleasure again of flying a J-3 Piper Cub on the same day, hour, and the minute that I soloed 50 Years ago. I hope you have enjoyed my tribute to my first flight instructor. He was a very exceptional man that I had the pleasure of knowing as I was growing up. He had a good sense of humor and it showed as on a number of occasions while he was instructing me.
