While we are in orbit we can observe thunderstorms from above and see how the convective cells develop and the storm system becomes a severe thunderstorm. Some times at night we see an unusal phenomena that occurs above active thunderstorms. These events are called "RED Sprites" and they appear above active thunderstorms and are similiar to an aurora curtain.
