The observation of lightning from orbit is an awsome thing to observe. Lightning appears as a large blob on the TV image and if there is a full moon it is possible to see the thunderstorm cells that a producing the lightning. Here's some lightning and it is a non moonlight night so all we see is the flashes of the lightning. The location for this lightning storm is in the Medeterranean Sea. The coast line of Spain is on the left side of the image and Algeria will appear on the right side of the image. The storm cells were flashing at about 135 flashes per minute and the average size of the flash is about 35 KM in diameter.
