A TRIBUTE TO MY FIRST FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR

LEONARD H. MELDEAU
Lt. Col. USAFR

The following pages have been assembled as a tribute to my my first flight instructor. He was the first person who taught me how to fly and without his patience, expert instruction, and inspiration and the encouragment from my Dad, with whom I build many model airplanes, I would not have developed my love for aviation and or be the pilot that I have become today. I had not been in contact with Leonard for a number of years and so when I was able in 1996 to fly a Piper J-3 Cub, 50 years later to the day, hour, and minute that I had soloed, I decided to call him to tell him about my flight. His wife said that he had died from a bout with cancer in 1995, so I decided after talking with his wife and family that I would create these few tribute pages to show you something about the man.
